Specialized Courts and Judicial Reforms for Domestic Violence and Minors
Type of Measure
Services > Justice > Protocols and guidelines
Form of Violence
Domestic violence/Intimate partner violence
Brief Description
In Albania, domestic violence cases are handled by judges in the family section of civil courts, while criminal cases involving minors are adjudicated in the juvenile sections of criminal courts. To ensure expertise and efficiency, the High Judicial Council (HJC) has set guidelines for the number of judges in juvenile sections and mandates that they receive specialized training. Additionally, the Inspectorate of Justice, established by Law No. 115/2016, conducts inspections of the courts' activities, addressing the recommendations of GREVIO to improve the monitoring of judicial practices, particularly in cases that involve the rights of minors.
